Hello Friends,
I really missed writing last week while I was at the Love, Peace and Happiness Retreat in Las Vegas, NV. A wonderful and wondrous time was had by all filled with joy, comradery and amazing synchronicities. For a peak at what was going on check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPdE46EQ2os
Now to the topic at hand – developing your intuition.
Intuition
1 : quick and ready insight; 2 a : immediate apprehension or cognition; b : knowledge or conviction gained by intuition; c : the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference
As I’ve previously stated, intuition has been described as your internal guidance system; the still, small voice within; your inner knowing; the voice of your soul/higher self; gut feelings and hunches; your Spidey sense; and many other ways.
Connecting to our intuition is easy because it’s a part of who we are whether we acknowledge it or not. It communicates through our knowing and feeling. We are energetic beings and as such we are always processing information even when we think we are not paying attention with our logical mind. It’s an important tool we are born with to help us navigate through life, so why not use it to our advantage. Let’s reclaim our intuitive gift.
I invite you to practice connecting to your intuition through some simple exercises I’ll be sharing with you in the coming weeks. Please feel free to share your experiences with us as I’m sure you’ll be amazed with the results and we’ll be encouraged by them.
Asking Questions
Start by asking questions and practicing listening. You can say them out loud, silently in your mind, or write them in a journal. For example:
- What does my body need right now to feel better?
- How can I increase my finances in a quick and easy way?
- Is doing __________ the best thing for me?
- Should I move forward with __________?
- What is the next step I should take in this situation?
The premise here is that we have all the answers we need within us and the object is to access those answers. Admit it folks, we often know the answers, we’ve heard the guidance clearly, but we don’t like it so we pretend not to know and moan that life is hard and unfair or we’re stuck. In order for us to experience a life of peace, joy and fulfillment we must start listening to our inner voice. We often feel as if we stumble upon answers or have a stroke of good luck but it’s neither, it’s our intuition at work. Instead of allowing ourselves to become worried, anxious or stressed, let’s be intentional about using our intuition for our benefit as it was intended.
Mel’s Two Cents: Ask your question and do not become attached or obsessed with an immediate or specific answer. Go about your daily routine but try to be a little more aware and present. Stop for a few seconds and really take a good, curious look at the sky, the trees, the flowers, a favorite painting, your family members, your pets or your immediate surroundings. Practice contemplating what’s around you and what you’re grateful for, and putting a smile on your face.
- You can practice a brief meditation or mindfulness exercise. Afterward, if any ideas, words or visions come to you make a note of them as they may come in bits and pieces and may not make sense to you at first.
- Take brief breaks throughout the day to breathe deeply and become present to where you are, what you are doing and how you are feeling in the moment.
- Pay attention to specific information you hear repeatedly – the same ad in different places, three people mention the same book to you, you keep hearing the same song – take some time to look up the information and see if there’s an answer there for you.
As you do this, the answers will come – sometimes softly and quietly as a simple realization or as an instant AHA moment. Your logical mind may try to discourage you, tell you that you’re being ridiculous, that this will never work, and how can you really be sure that the answer is real or just a figment of your imagination. Well, my friends, you will know that the answer is true for you by how you feel – it will simply make complete sense to you and you will feel peaceful and/or excited – you will just know that it’s the right answer for you, trust that feeling.
Be easy and patient with yourself for goodness sake, we are practicing and it may take some time to get the hang of it, but it’s soooo worth it (insert a huge Chester Cheetah smiley face with a knowing wink here).
Until next time.
