Practice following your bliss

Practice following your bliss

Hello Friends,

Let’s expand more on last week’s blog about dreaming your desired reality into existence. As you dream about your heart’s desires and have fun living them out in your imagination, it’s important to do one thing as you go about your daily routines: FOLLOW YOUR BLISS!

bliss
1 : complete happiness; 2 : paradise, heaven

Joseph Campbell, who was an American professor of literature and author of works that covers many aspects of the human experience, lived by this philosophy: “Follow your bliss. If you do follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while waiting for you, and the life you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be. If you follow your bliss, doors will open for you that wouldn’t have opened for anyone else.”

If you take time everyday to do things that make you feel good, you expand the possibilities and opportunities available to you. In a state of peace and joy you are able to perceive all the good that’s around you and how it can be used to your advantage. Simply focus your attention on things that help you feel peaceful and put a big grin on your face.

Ok, ok, I know it’s hard to follow your bliss when you feel sad, angry, frustrated or are lost in the depths of despair, but this is when it would serve you best to make every effort to shift out of that negative energy. I know we think it feels good to tell anyone who will listen about our woes, but it’s the exact opposite. Instead of feeling better, you dig yourself deeper into that dark pit of despair!

Mel’s Two Cents: Recommendations for following your bliss: watch a funny movie or binge watch a comedy sitcom; play your favorite upbeat song, sing aloud and dance your butt off; look at pictures of cute, adorable animals or babies; go hang out with that friend who seems to perpetually wear rose colored glasses; visit with that family member who swears he’s a comedian and laugh at his corny jokes; eat your favorite thing and enjoy every bite of it as if it were the last meal on earth; ask yourself – what would a 5 year old do? – and then do exactly that; play hooky from work and do something you enjoy; and lastly, give yourself a darn break already – all that stress is harmful to your body and I’m sure you want to stay as healthy and as good looking as you can for as long as possible.

Go have fun and laugh until you cry!

Until next time.

Mel
